How is salary converted between pay periods?

Salary conversion starts by normalizing your input to an annual figure, then dividing by the number of periods in a year. All calculations use integer cents to avoid floating-point currency errors.

Salary Conversion Formulas

Annual = Hourly x Hours/Week x 52

Monthly = Annual / 12. Biweekly = Annual / 26. Weekly = Annual / 52. Daily = Annual / 260. Hourly = Annual / (Hours/Week x 52).

Assumptions Used

  • 52 weeks: Number of weeks per year
  • 26 periods: Biweekly pay periods per year (52 / 2)
  • 12 months: Calendar months per year
  • 260 days: Standard work days per year (52 weeks x 5 days)
  • Hours/week: Configurable, defaults to 40 for full-time

These are gross salary conversions. Taxes, deductions, overtime, holidays, and paid time off are not factored into the calculations.

Biweekly pay means you are paid every two weeks, resulting in 26 paychecks per year. Semimonthly pay means you are paid twice a month on fixed dates, resulting in 24 paychecks per year. This calculator uses biweekly (every 2 weeks, 26 periods).
